Gambia moving ahead
Barry Morgan
15 Nov 2017

Gambia is aiming to license hydrocarbon blocks “in a competitive and transparent selection process for the first time in its history”, according to consulting law firm Berwin Leighton Paisner (BLP), which has been contracted to supervise proceedings, writes Barry Morgan.

“This decision is a significant step and showcases the preparedness and commitment of the Gambian government to develop the vast hydrocarbon opportunities in the Gambia and the wider Senegal basin,” Gambia's Petroleum & Energy Minister Fafa Sangyang said at a promotional meeting last week in London.

The event — hosted by BLP in association with Gambian law firm Amie Bensouda & Co — was convened to update suitors on oil and gas investment opportunities and the “anticipated selection process to be implemented in the coming months” as Gambia engages with the petroleum industry.

The event was attended by Gambia’s Head of Civil Service Dawda Fadera, as well as the country's Minister of Finance & Economic Affairs Amadou Sanneh, Attorney General & Minister of Justice Abubacarr Tambedou, Permanent Secretary to the Ministry of Petroleum and Energy Mod Ceesay, Commissioner of Petroleum Jerreh Barrow and managing director of Gambia National Petroleum Corporation, Mambury Njie.
